"Sunlight filters through the tall, silvery stand of quivering, swaying aspens, throwing soft shadows across the verdant carpet of summer beneath my feet." -Tony Vagneur, Aspen Times, 20 April 2010There are times when I come across an article that is so well written, I simply gasp. I'm stunned by prose so beautiful that for a moment I am simply stunned.
Such as the case with Aspen Times columnist Tony Vagneur. Tony is a writer, journalist, cowboy, piano man, a skier on the ski patrol, and if my impressions are correct, a very well liked person. He is also one of the few persons who can claim to having family roots in Aspen that go back generations.
Anyway, I'm sending you over to Tony's piece In the Saddle.
There's so much to admire here, so much to learn from. It's not just the prose or the message, it's how the whole thing is constructed. It's the most perfect piece of writing I've seen in a very long time. I could dissect the whole thing, but it would ruin it. So just enjoy, but remember, there is lots to be learned here just by reading it.
The link didn't work for me but I found it through a search engine and it is a lovely piece of writing. Spare and sharp it was well worth reading.
ReplyDeleteI've always been a sucker for 'quivering aspens.'
ReplyDeleteLink should work now! Sorry about that!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I knew Tony when he was embarrassed to admit that he was a poet. guess he thought riding broncs was more manly. Glad to know he still has his sensitive side.
