Apparently, they started up north, snapping a cable on the Oakland Bay Bridge up near San Fransisco. Apparently it's shut down for 24 hours, no doubt clogging up ferries and the BART for people needing to get home.  This photo was taken by someone on the bridge when the cable snapped.
